The magical pocket watch
It was a cold, dull afternoon in Aylsham and Jimmy’s great Grandad, Alfred, was chatting about the time he was at Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. All of a sudden there was a grey mist and the room went dark then there was a flash as bright as a gas lamp exploding; Jimmy and Alfred were in a time travel tunnel.
A few minutes later, Alfred was dressed in a neatly-pressed suit and bow tie and Jimmy was dressed in a sailors outfit. Jimmy was shocked and had no idea of the event that had just past.
He asked Alfred what was going on and he replied to him that he thought they were at the golden jubilee.
Alfred was a lot younger now and Jimmy was still the same age. They headed for the bar to get some ginger beer and ale.
Once in the pub – the Black Boys – Alfred ordered an ale and Jimmy tried a ginger beer. They sat down and Jimmy reached in his pocket to see if he had any money to pay for the drinks but instead he found a piece of paper it read : table 27 bring ticket to get a free meal meet in the town square at 15:00. Jimmy was confused, Alfred told him that it was the table in which they were going to eat at and that they needed to be quick as it was already 14:50.
Alfred and Jimmy sat down at their table and the food was shortly distributed to them. It consisted of beef, mutton, potatoes and plum pudding. After they had eaten they went into a shop it was called Ward and George; they strolled in and Jimmy saw a hat which he loved. Upset that he couldn’t afford it, they headed for Forsters field.
On the way to the sports, Alfred spotted something glinting in the grass. After retrieving it he saw it was a smashed pocket watch that needed winding. It was stuck at 8:00 pm. meaning to give it back to the head of the Jubilee committee-William Forster-Alfred slipped it in his pocket.
It was 6:00 pm and the sports were underway Jimmy was getting ready to take part in a 200 metre race. The gun was fired. Jimmy took an early lead. He placed first and got a bespoke hat from ward and George. Jimmy punched the air with excitement. Alfred then took part in a potato sack race and placed second. The sports were over and the dance was at eight for anybody who wanted to come.
However Jimmy and Alfred’s time was nearly up. Suddenly Alfred started to feel a vibration in his pocket he reached in and realised that it was the pocket watch then Jimmy and Alfred were back in the living room.
